(ANAHEIM, CA) – The rush to withdraw support from Bill Hunt’s campaign for Orange County Sheriff continued yesterday as the La Habra Police Officers Association also rescinded their endorsement of Bill Hunt. This comes as a result of reports surfacing that much of Bill Hunt’s professional practice as a Private Investigator has been to defend gang members and other criminals on behalf of some of the criminal defense attorneys who have contributed heavily to Hunt’s campaign.
This comes on the heels of the Santa Ana Police Officers Association pulling their endorsement earlier in the week, as a result of Hunt’s working with the defense team of a known gang member, Victor Manuel Lua, who was accused of physically assaulting his victim with a handgun.
As Santa Ana Police Chief Paul Walters was quoted in the Orange County Register of saying about Hunt, “He is using his law enforcement training to help gang members.”
“Over the past week, two things have become perfectly clear,” said Craig Hunter campaign spokesman Tim Clark. “Not only does Bill Hunt lack the judgement to become Sheriff, but with these revelations, there is no chance he can wage a viable campaign against Sheriff Hutchens. Anyone wishing to see new leadership in the Sheriff’s office has to now see that Craig Hunter is the only one who can take on Hutchens.”
Craig Hunter has put together a strong campaign for Sheriff, having secured placement on more than 1.8 million pieces of slate mail for the June Primary.
As Anaheim’s Deputy Chief of Police, Craig Hunter oversees all daily police operations of California’s tenth largest city, including the department’s nearly 800 full-time and volunteer members, and a $120 million budget. During his tenure, Anaheim has earned national acclaim for homeland security and community policing, and the city is recognized as the safest among California’s ten largest cities. Chief Hunter has also implemented numerous cost saving procedures that have streamlined spending, eliminated waste, and created more efficient use of taxpayer dollars.
