Placentia City Councilman Scott Nelson Joins Growing List of Local Elected Officials Supporting Craig Hunter for Sheriff

(Placentia, CA) – Today, Placentia City Councilman Scott Nelson announced his support for Craig

Hunter for Sheriff, joining a growing list of local elected leaders supporting the Anaheim Chief

Deputy for the Sheriff position.

“Orange County needs a Sheriff who understands how to manage a large department, promote

good morale, and balance budgets,” said Councilman Nelson.  “Craig Hunter has established

himself as a fiscal conservative and a proven leader.  During his time with the Anaheim police

department, he has managed large budgets, cut excessive spending, and stretched every dollar as

far as it will go.  At the same time, he helped establish Anaheim as the safest of California’s ten

largest cities.  That’s a tremendous record of accomplishment, and its exactly what we need in the

Sheriff’s office.”

Placentia Councilman Nelson joins the highest ranking republican woman in the state Michelle

Steel,  along with a growing list of mayors, city council members, political action committees and

police officer associations, in supporting Craig Hunter for Sheriff.

As Anaheim’s Deputy Chief, Craig Hunter oversees all daily police operations of California’s tenth

largest city, including the department’s nearly 800 full-time and volunteer members, and a $120

million budget.  During his tenure, Anaheim has earned national acclaim for homeland security and

community policing, and the city is recognized as the safest among California’s ten largest cities.

Chief Hunter has also implemented numerous cost saving procedures that have streamlined

spending, eliminated waste, and created more efficient use of taxpayer dollars.

Chief Hunter holds a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Chapman University.  He is also a

graduate of the FBI National Academy, Command College, POST Leadership Institute, and the

Delinquency Control Institute at USC.  Craig and Lisa Hunter live in Yorba Linda and are raising their

four children.
