Another Fiscally Conservative Official Gets Behind Craig Hunter

(Anaheim) – Today Board of Equalization Member Michelle Steel announced her support for Anaheim Chief Deputy Craig Hunter for Orange County Sheriff. Steel’s endorsement comes on the heels of strong fundraising efforts by Hunter, who is quickly consolidating support from among the Orange County business, neighborhood, and law enforcement communities.

“Chief Craig Hunter is not only an accomplished police officer, but he is also a strong fiscal conservative who joins me in opposition to higher taxes,” said Michelle Steel. “During his tenure, Chief Hunter has carefully managed the Anaheim Police Department so that taxpayer dollars were spent efficiently. I am convinced he will bring that same high level of efficiency and concern for taxpayers to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. I am proud to support him.”

Michelle Steel is a lifelong conservative and taxpayer advocate who was first elected to the Board of Equalization in 2006 – her first run for public office. Once on the Board, Michelle quickly went to work on behalf of taxpayers, where she discovered that the Board of Equalization had delayed the return of millions of dollars in security deposits owed to California businesses. Thanks to her efforts, the Board returned $42 million in tax security deposits to more than 5,500 small businesses. Orange County is the largest population center in Michelle Steel’s Board of Equalization District.

One of the most respected members of Orange County’s law enforcement community, Chief Deputy Craig Hunter oversees all daily Anaheim police operations including the department’s nearly 800 full time and volunteer members and a $120 million budget. Through polices developed under Chief Hunter’s tenure, Anaheim has earned national acclaim for homeland security and community policing, and the city is recognized as the safest among California’s ten largest cities.
